Southern Foods was established in 1954 by V.M. Nussbaum Jr. His dream and desire was to supply restaurant quality food to the home. In those days, beef was delivered by rail car and then dry aged on hooks by the side. After a few years, local restaurants in the Greensboro area began asking for our hand cut steaks and fresh ground beef. This provided the start for the Foodservice Division of Southern Foods.

Today we distribute to North and South Carolina, Atlanta and Athens, Georgia as well as the Southern area of Virginia. Our mission is to provide high quality ingredients to the Chef who expects the above average. We provide an Outside Sales staff that has the culinary experience that will give product and menu consultation. The Inside Sales Representatives have product education meetings three times a week; whether it is a vendor demonstration or a presentation by our Corporate Chef, it is our desire to provide you a knowledgeable call center for questions, answers and solutions.

Our portion control facility features a staff with a tenure that averages over fifteen years. Whether it is beef, lamb, pork, veal or fresh seafood, this staff knows its customers and provides the individual specifications that each order requires. For over twenty years, Southern Foods has been a proud licensed distributor of Certified Angus Beef.

Behind the scenes, our receiving staff and night loading crew strive to meet and beat industry standards for order fulfillment. Delivery service…nobody does it better. When our trucks arrive you can be sure the driver coming in your door will be courteous and pleased to serve in any way.
