Resident Cheesemonger

Sasha Shreders is our resident Cheesemonger.  With over 15 years of cheese experience, Sasha is ready to help you with whatever cheese needs you may have.  Before arriving at Southern Foods, Sasha worked in several NYC cheese shops including Citarella, Artisanal Fromagerie & Bistro, and Murray's Cheese.  He also spent time learning cheese handling & quality control at Crystal Food Import in Boston before returning to a retail setting as Cheesemonger for Southern Season in Chapel Hill.


Sasha is an active member of the American Cheese Society, and one of only 120 people in the inaugural class of Certified Cheese Professionals.

As our cheese specialist, Sasha personally selects all of the cheeses stocked at Southern Foods.  He makes frequent exploratory trips to domestic cheese makers to seek out new and interesting cheeses.  He also works closely with a network of reputable importers to source the best international cheeses at the fairest price.

Sasha also heads up cheese operations in our storage and cutting facility.  He conducts regular quality inspections of our inventory and ensures that proper storage and handling procedures are being followed.  In addition, he manages the rotating selection of cheeses offered in our innovative “Cut & Wrap” program and oversees its operation in our cutting facility.
